Everyone has their own unique style preferences and priorities for their home. Most people are concerned with their interiors because they spend most of their time there, so logic would dictate that it should be as comfortable as possible.

However, you’d be surprised to know that the roof of your home plays a significant role in the comfortability of your home. It regulates your home’s temperatures, protects you from outside elements, and prevents natural disasters from playing out in your home.

If you’re a new homeowner and considering installing a rooftop on your home but are unsure of what factors to consider, the “2021 Roof Purchasing Study” might help clear things up a little.

The “2021 Roof Purchasing Study” is a nationwide survey conducted by Signet Research Inc, providing insight into the factors that inform homeowners buying decisions.

When purchasing new roofing materials and installing a roofing system, homeowners primarily focus on the strength and durability of materials. Once they’ve found the materials that measure up to their durability standards, the second and third factors influencing their buying decisions are longevity and weather resistance.

Coming in second for reasons homeowners replace their roofing is the age of their roofing systems. Since most rooftops last between 30 and 50 years, most homeowners find themselves having to replace their roofing systems due to severe weather damage. The older rooftops get, the less durable they become, and their weather resistance dwindles.

If you live in an area that experiences frequent storms and severe weather, it’s vital to regularly inspect your roof and make sure it’s prepared to fend off the next storm.

When it comes to how much homeowners are willing to pay for their roofing, the study found that while price points are significant points of consideration, people were willing to invest a bit of money to get a highly durable rooftop that will last them decades. Because of the relatively long lifespan of roofing systems, homeowners don’t mind investing large sums of money once or twice in their lives for a high-functioning roof.

For homeowners, roofing materials can be quite a difficult purchase to make. The study found that homeowners trust their roofers and their expertise when picking out the right roofing materials. 61% of homeowners are in the market for high-quality roofing materials, while 57% rely on their roofers for material recommendations.

When comparing this study’s results to the 2011 Color Study, the comparison shows that over the span of 10 years, there’s been a significant increase in homeowners valuing the importance of curb appeal and viewing their home’s exterior as a reflection of their personalities.

The roofing color preference has remained consistent over the years. Black remains the leading roofing color choice, followed by brown and gray.
